The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Olakunle Nafiu, has decorated his Military Assistant, Shuaibu Mohammad, with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, following his recent promotion in the Nigerian Army.

The brief ceremony took place at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, where the decoration was performed by Brigadier General Nafiu alongside the officer’s wife, Hauwa Mohammad.

Speaking at the event, Nafiu commended the newly promoted officer for his dedication and professionalism, noting that he has consistently demonstrated competence in the discharge of his duties.

He emphasized that promotion in the military is both a reflection of divine favour and recognition of hard work, while also bringing increased responsibility.

The NYSC chief urged Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad to rise to the demands of his new rank, expressing confidence in his ability to handle more challenging assignments. He also wished him continued success in his career.

In his response, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, for approving his promotion. He described the elevation as a call to greater service, loyalty, and commitment to the Nigerian Army and the country.

He reaffirmed his resolve to uphold discipline and professionalism, adding that the new rank would further motivate him to serve with renewed dedication.

The officer also acknowledged the support and guidance of the NYSC Director-General, as well as the encouragement he has received from NYSC management and staff.

Earlier, the Acting Director of Special Duties, George Mfongang, described the promotion as a well-earned recognition of years of sacrifice, discipline, and service.
