The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Katsina State has organised a cultural carnival to promote national unity, peaceful coexistence and appreciation of Nigeria’s diverse traditions.

The event, held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, M.D. Yusuf Complex, Mani Road, Katsina, featured colourful cultural performances by corps members representing different ethnic groups.

The State Coordinator, Mr Okwor Evans, led a procession alongside camp officials, the NYSC band and corps members dressed in traditional attire.

Addressing participants, Evans urged corps members to respect one another’s cultural backgrounds and embrace national unity.

“No culture is superior to the other; every culture is as good as the other; let us all embrace and celebrate one another’s culture,” he said.

Ten platoons participated in the competition, showcasing traditions from ethnic groups including Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani, Nupe, Tiv and Ibibio.

Platoon 4 emerged as the winner, while Platoons 1 and 7 secured second and third positions, respectively.

The carnival also featured a military display and the presentation of prizes to outstanding participants.

The event formed part of NYSC orientation activities designed to strengthen cultural understanding and unity among young Nigerians.
