Plateau United technical adviser Gbenga Ogunbote has urged his players to improve their finishing despite securing a 2-0 victory over Inter Lagos in their Nigeria Premier Football League encounter.
The Peace Boys claimed all three points in Sunday’s Matchday Six fixture at the New Jos Stadium, with Gideon Monday and Jibrin Ibrahim scoring in the second half.
Plateau United created several opportunities during the encounter but struggled to convert their chances, particularly in the opening 45 minutes.
Despite eventually securing a two-goal victory, Ogunbote said the team’s inability to make better use of its opportunities remained an area requiring improvement.
“I think it is worrisome, no doubt. Every coach wants to win from the first minute of the game, but sometimes anxiety and other things will cost a team,” Ogunbote said in comments released by the club.
The experienced coach suggested that the pressure to score early could sometimes affect players’ composure and decision-making in front of goal.
He, however, noted that difficulties converting chances were not peculiar to Plateau United, with other teams in the league facing similar challenges.
Ogunbote is expected to continue working on the team’s attacking efficiency as Plateau United seek to maintain their strong start to the campaign.
The victory over Inter Lagos extended Plateau United’s unbeaten run to five league matches.
The Jos-based club currently sit second on the NPFL table with 11 points from six matches.
Plateau United will be looking to maintain their momentum while improving their conversion rate as the league season progresses.
