Aston Villa will welcome Arsenal to a significantly changed Villa Park on Monday night as major redevelopment works at the stadium continue ahead of its planned expansion.
The match will be played with a reduced stadium capacity of about 37,000 spectators due to the closure of the North Stand for the 2026/27 season. The stand has been closed to allow extensive construction work as part of the club’s long-term redevelopment project.
Once completed, the upgraded Villa Park is expected to accommodate more than 50,000 supporters, with the expansion designed to improve facilities and position the stadium among the leading football venues in the region ahead of Euro 2028.
The redevelopment has already led to major structural changes at the North Stand, where the original roof has been removed to allow demolition and foundation work ahead of the installation of new structural sections.
On matchdays, measures are being put in place to maintain safety around the construction area, including the use of ball assistants and possible temporary pitch netting to separate the work zone from the playing area.
The Trinity Road Stand has also undergone upgrades, with most seats removed and replaced during the summer to create a new seating arrangement. A refurbished press area has been installed, while plans are in place for a new player tunnel at the junction between the Trinity Stand and the North Stand.
Villa has also introduced a new premium hospitality facility known as “The Cross by Tom Sellers”, located between the Holte End and Trinity Road Stand. The dining experience, led by two-Michelin-starred chef Tom Sellers, is part of the club’s wider efforts to enhance matchday services for corporate guests.
Despite the ongoing construction work and reduced capacity, Aston Villa remains required to provide the standard minimum allocation of 3,000 tickets for visiting supporters. Arsenal fans attending the fixture will be accommodated in their designated away section, which remains fully operational.
The redevelopment project is expected to continue as Villa prepares for a modernised Villa Park capable of hosting larger crowds and major football events in the future.
