The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old woman, Hauwa’u Haruna, over the alleged killing of her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, following a domestic confrontation in Bauchi State.
The incident occurred at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi, where the two women reportedly lived with their husband.
According to the police, the command’s C-Division received information about the incident at approximately 4:05 p.m. and immediately deployed detectives to the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicated that Haruna, who is the second wife in the household, allegedly struck 43-year-old Adamu on the forehead with a pestle during the confrontation.
The victim reportedly lost consciousness following the incident and was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where she was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
Her remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
Police said Haruna was arrested at the scene, while the pestle allegedly used during the incident was recovered as an exhibit.
The command said preliminary findings suggested that the suspect may have been experiencing hallucinations at the time of the incident. However, further investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Aliyu expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged members of the public to seek appropriate medical and psychosocial assistance for relatives experiencing concerning psychological or behavioural difficulties.
