The Nigeria Police Force has announced a significant breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping and violent crime following the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers during a coordinated operation in Nasarawa State.

The operation, carried out in Rukubi Community, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, was launched after a distress alert received in the early hours of May 7, 2026, reporting an armed attack on residents the previous night.
According to police authorities, armed men had invaded the community on May 6, 2026, firing sporadically and causing panic. During the assault, two residents were reportedly abducted from their homes and taken to an unknown location.
Acting on the report, operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command, supported by other security agencies and local vigilante groups, mobilised swiftly to the area and conducted a coordinated search-and-rescue operation. The effort led to the arrest of eight suspects allegedly linked to the kidnapping incident.
The suspects, identified as members of the same local group in Rukubi Village, were apprehended during the operation, which also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, four Bajaj motorcycles, and two expended 7.62mm ammunition shells believed to have been used in the attack.
Police further confirmed that one of the suspects sustained severe injuries during the encounter and later died while receiving medical attention.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the operatives for what he described as a professionally executed intelligence-led operation. He said the success reflects improved coordination among security agencies and the growing role of community collaboration in tackling violent crime.
He also praised the support of sister security agencies, local vigilante groups, and residents of the affected community, noting that their timely information and cooperation were critical to the outcome of the operation.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, said the police remain committed to sustaining pressure on criminal networks and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the country.
The suspects are expected to be transferred to appropriate investigative units for further interrogation and prosecution.
