The Nigerian Women in Information Technology (NWIIT) has sought collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to enhance cybersecurity awareness, training, and capacity building across Nigeria.
The request was made during a courtesy visit by the leadership of NWIIT to the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr Ola Olukoyede, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Speaking during the visit, the President of NWIIT, Dr Oluwakemi Ayodele, described the organisation as an interest group under the Nigerian Computer Society dedicated to advocating for, empowering, and mentoring women and girls in information technology.

She explained that the group operates a Women in Cyber Security Initiative aimed at supporting women already working in cybersecurity as well as those seeking opportunities within the field.
According to Dr Ayodele, the initiative is designed to provide training and retraining programmes that will strengthen cybersecurity knowledge and expand the reach of awareness campaigns across communities and institutions.
She noted that NWIIT is seeking partnerships with organisations whose mandates align with its objectives, particularly agencies such as the EFCC, to broaden cybersecurity education and improve digital safety across the country.
“We are looking out for organisations like the EFCC that can collaborate with us and support our efforts so that we can reach more people, states, and communities in the area of cybersecurity,” she said.
Responding on behalf of the EFCC Chairman, the Secretary to the Commission, Mohammed Hammajoda, welcomed the initiative and expressed the Commission’s readiness to support the group’s cybersecurity training programmes.
He assured the delegation that the EFCC would explore appropriate channels of collaboration through its Academy and Information Technology Department.

Also speaking, the Chief of Staff to the EFCC Chairman, Commander of the EFCC, CE Michael Nzekwe, commended NWIIT’s commitment to strengthening cybersecurity and supporting the fight against corruption and cyber-related crimes.
Nzekwe emphasised the importance of stakeholder collaboration in combating economic and financial crimes, noting that no single institution can effectively fight corruption alone.
He also stressed the need for sustained public awareness campaigns to equip Nigerians with the knowledge required to protect themselves against cyber fraud and other online threats.
