Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has called for enhanced collaboration among federal and state institutions to strengthen the rule of law, improve public safety, and advance justice sector reforms across the country.
Tunji-Ojo made the call while attending the Joint Meeting of the Body of Attorneys General and the General Council of the Bar, hosted by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), in Abuja.
The meeting brought together Commissioners for Justice and Attorneys General from various states to discuss measures aimed at balancing public order with constitutional guarantees and improving the administration of justice in Nigeria.
Speaking at the forum, the Interior Minister identified the decongestion of correctional facilities, the administration and documentation of foreign nationals, and the standardisation of statutory marriages as key areas requiring stronger intergovernmental cooperation.
He emphasised the need for sustained engagement among stakeholders to address jurisdictional challenges, strengthen institutional coordination, and deliver lasting reforms that benefit Nigerians.
Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Ministry of Interior’s commitment to working closely with the Body of Attorneys General and other justice sector actors to promote a modern, secure, and collaborative governance framework.
According to him, the engagement aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to strengthen institutions, uphold the rule of law, and safeguard the rights, dignity, and security of all citizens.
The minister noted that fostering intergovernmental harmony and mutual understanding remains critical to achieving effective governance and sustainable justice sector reforms.
