At least nine people have reportedly been killed in separate attacks across communities in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State between Saturday night and Sunday morning, raising fresh security concerns among residents.
Five of the victims were said to be passengers travelling to Gana-Ropp in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area when they were attacked on Saturday night.
The National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association, Bulus Dabit, confirmed the deaths and condemned the attack, calling on security agencies to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible.
Dabit expressed concern over the recurring loss of lives in the affected communities, saying the incidents had continued to create fear among residents.
He appealed to the authorities to strengthen security around vulnerable communities and ensure that residents and travellers could conduct their lawful activities safely.
Pyem Youth Leader in Gana-Ropp, Ukasha Garaba, also confirmed that five bodies were recovered following the attack.
Garaba said the victims were passengers travelling as labourers when they were attacked, describing the incident as painful and calling for urgent measures to improve security along routes in the area.
In another incident, two people, including a pastor, were reportedly killed while travelling to church at Dorowa Babuje on Sunday morning.
The development was said to have increased tension in Kantoma and neighbouring communities in Barkin Ladi.
Elsewhere, a woman was reportedly killed at Baten Wereng in Riyom Local Government Area on Saturday night, September 19, while another person was reported killed at Ratyidi in Fan District.
Spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed reports of the attacks and called for an increased security presence in the affected communities.
Tengwong urged security agencies to investigate the incidents and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
He also appealed to residents to remain calm and vigilant while security authorities work to prevent further violence and protect lives and property.
Meanwhile, several cattle were reportedly killed or taken away around Dorowa Maranba and the Kantoma axis in the early hours of Sunday.
Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in Barkin Ladi, Gambo Abubakar, confirmed reports that cattle had been stolen in the area.
Abubakar called on security agencies to investigate the incident and take measures to restore calm.
The latest incidents have renewed concerns over security in parts of Plateau State, with community representatives calling for stronger security measures to prevent further attacks and protect residents.
