A 40-year-old man has been arrested in Ondo State following allegations that he sexually assaulted a 20-year-old married woman with an intellectual disability.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 9, 2026, at Ajegunle Street in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The victim, who is reportedly about four months pregnant, was allegedly assaulted by the suspect, identified as Tomiwa.
The Ondo State Agency for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities condemned the incident and called for appropriate action against anyone found responsible.
The agency’s Board Chairman, Princess Folashade Arise, disclosed the development on Friday.
According to her, the alleged assault was brought to the agency’s attention by a concerned community elder.
She said she subsequently contacted the Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force in Ore, ACP Femi Iwasoku, who directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ore Division to investigate the matter.
Ms Arise said the suspect was arrested shortly after the police were alerted.
She added that the agency would continue to monitor the case and advocate for the protection of persons with disabilities from abuse and exploitation.
Police authorities had not publicly disclosed further details of the investigation at the time of the report.
