A six-year-old Nigerian girl has tragically died after falling from a high-rise apartment building in Toronto, Canada, in an incident that has left both the local and Nigerian communities in deep shock.
The heartbreaking event occurred at a residential complex on Chalkfarm Drive in North York, near Jane Street, at about 8:15 p.m., according to Toronto police reports.

Emergency responders were called to the scene following reports of “unknown trouble,” but the child was found unresponsive on the ground outside the building and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say preliminary findings indicate that the fall occurred from a bedroom window on the 28th floor of the building. Authorities have stated that the case does not appear suspicious at this stage, though investigations remain ongoing.
Reports indicate that the young girl had been staying with a family friend while her mother was in Nigeria at the time of the incident. Neighbours described her as lively, cheerful, and well known within the residential community, often seen playing around the building.
Residents have expressed disbelief over how the tragedy occurred, noting that the building is fitted with window safety mechanisms designed to limit how far windows can open.
The property management company overseeing the building has described the incident as “deeply saddening,” extending condolences to the grieving family while confirming cooperation with police investigations.
The tragedy has since sparked an outpouring of grief among Nigerians in Canada and online, with many calling for greater attention to child safety measures in high-rise residential buildings.

Authorities say a full investigation is ongoing, with an autopsy expected to provide further clarity on the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
