The administration of United States President Donald Trump says it has deported more than three million undocumented immigrants since his return to office, while maintaining that no illegal immigrant has been released into the country for 15 consecutive months.
The administration disclosed this in a fact sheet issued by the U.S. Department of State, describing the measures as part of efforts to strengthen immigration enforcement, prioritise American citizens and overhaul the country’s immigration system.
“President Trump has delivered on his promise to fix immigration, prioritise American citizens, and protect U.S. citizenship. The border is sealed. The results are undeniable,” the administration said.
According to the statement, more than three million undocumented immigrants have been deported since Trump returned to office, including thousands who had been convicted of violent crimes.
The administration also said it had intensified efforts to revoke citizenship obtained fraudulently, with denaturalisation claims filed against 88 individuals found to be ineligible for U.S. citizenship.
It further claimed that taxpayer-funded benefits had been terminated for more than 1.4 million undocumented immigrants who were allegedly receiving public assistance improperly.
The administration said it had also barred such individuals from more than a dozen taxpayer-funded healthcare programmes as part of its broader immigration enforcement measures.
The Trump administration said it had suspended visa processing for citizens of 75 countries it considers high-risk, citing national security concerns and the need to reduce visa overstays.
It also said screening procedures for existing visa programmes had been strengthened.
In addition, the administration said it was working with several states to remove thousands of non-citizens from voter registration rolls, arguing that voting in federal elections is restricted to U.S. citizens.
The citizenship examination has also been revised, with the administration saying the changes are intended to better assess applicants’ knowledge of American history, government and values.
The statement recalled that Trump, during his first week back in office, signed an executive order declaring a crisis at the southern border and directing immediate measures to curb illegal entry into the United States.
“For 15 straight months, no illegal aliens have been released into the country,” the administration said.
The U.S. Mission in Nigeria has also repeatedly warned Nigerian visa applicants and holders to comply with U.S. immigration laws or risk having their visas revoked and facing possible deportation.
The mission has stated that visas can be revoked over criminal activity, overstaying, fraud or conduct considered a threat to public safety.
It has urged Nigerians travelling to the United States to use their visas only for the purposes for which they were issued and to leave the country before the expiration of their authorised stay.
