A Nigerian national has been deported from Indonesia after failing to present valid travel documents or a residence permit to immigration authorities.
The Nigerian was among two foreign nationals deported on Tuesday, August 18, through the immigration checkpoint at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, according to ANTARA News.
Authorities at the Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Centre in Riau Islands Province said the Nigerian violated Article 71(b) of Indonesia’s Immigration Law by failing to provide valid immigration documents.

Before his deportation, the Nigerian was held at the Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Centre, where authorities verified his identity and completed the necessary travel documentation.
The detention centre’s official, I Wayan Putu Wiadnya, described the deportation as an administrative immigration measure against foreigners who violate Indonesian immigration regulations.
“We returned them and ensured the entire process was conducted professionally, orderly, safely and accountably,” Wiadnya said.
The Nigerian was deported alongside a Palestinian national who was also found to have violated Indonesian immigration regulations.
The Palestinian was deported for overstaying in Indonesia, contrary to Article 78(3) of the country’s Immigration Law.
The Head of the Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Centre, Erybowo Radyan Asmono, said the deportations were part of efforts to enforce immigration laws and maintain order regarding the presence of foreigners in the country.

He stressed that immigration law enforcement was necessary to protect Indonesia’s national sovereignty but should be carried out professionally and in accordance with humanitarian principles.
Asmono added that all foreigners in Indonesia were required to comply with the country’s immigration laws and regulations, warning that violations could result in appropriate administrative action.
