The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to modernising Nigeria’s immigration processes to support genuine foreign investment while protecting national interests.
Tunji-Ojo stated this on Thursday after receiving the Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, Gautier Mignot, and the President of the European Business Chamber in Nigeria (EUROCHAM), Frederik Klinke, on a courtesy visit to his office.
According to the minister, discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between Nigeria and the European Union, promoting innovative ideas, and ensuring that immigration policies effectively support international investments.

He said the government was moving away from slow, manual, and vulnerable processes by developing an automated and transparent system that would enable foreign professionals to manage their work permits directly without the involvement of middlemen or unauthorised agents.
“Nigeria is moving decisively away from slow, manual, and vulnerable legacy processes. We are building an automated, transparent network where foreign experts can manage their work permits directly,” he said.
Tunji-Ojo explained that the reforms align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to ensure that foreign expertise contributes meaningfully to the Nigerian economy, particularly through compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.

The minister added that collaboration with the EU and EUROCHAM would help establish a globally competitive immigration system that attracts international talent while preserving Nigeria’s sovereignty and economic interests.
He expressed confidence that closer engagement with European partners would enhance investment opportunities and strengthen institutional cooperation between Nigeria and the European business community.
