Members of the Congress of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for comprehensive reforms in Nigerian football.
The NFF Congress members, who met at Reno Hotel, Katampe, Abuja, said they were committed to supporting and aligning with the reform process aimed at improving the structure and development of football in the country.
The members also commended President Tinubu for what they described as strong support and funding for Nigerian football, acknowledging his commitment to the growth of sports and the wider sports economy.
They agreed that Nigerian football requires urgent reforms, including improvements in governance, transparency, accountability, stakeholder representation, domestic competitions and overall football development.
Following the meeting, a delegation representing various football constituencies, including players, coaches, referees, media representatives and other stakeholders from different zones, met with the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, at the NSC headquarters in Abuja on Friday, August 28, 2026.
During the meeting, Dikko briefed the delegation on the objectives of the president’s football reform agenda, sports infrastructure development plans, funding strategies, the potential of the sports economy and the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE) framework.
The Congress members pledged their full support for the reform process and said they would await the outcome of ongoing engagements between the NSC, FIFA and CAF before supporting the implementation of agreed measures.
They described football as a major national asset that must align with the broader reform agenda of the federal government.
The NFF Congress further urged all stakeholders to embrace the proposed changes, stating that personal interests and concerns about reforms should not prevent the progress of Nigerian football.
The members reaffirmed their commitment to helping restore confidence, stability and sustainable success in Nigerian football through the implementation of reforms that will strengthen the sport both domestically and internationally.
