Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has delayed his arrival at the national team camp ahead of Nigeria’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar on Friday.
Okoye was the only member of the invited squad yet to join his teammates after 23 players reported and began preparations for the encounter in Uyo.
However, Super Eagles Media Officer Promise Efoghe said the Udinese goalkeeper had been granted permission to attend to family and personal matters and was expected to arrive on Thursday morning, about 24 hours before the Madagascar fixture.
Head coach Eric Chelle included Okoye alongside Stanley Nwabali and Arthur Okonkwo among the three goalkeepers invited for the qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
Nigeria will face Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, September 25, before travelling to face Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, September 29.
