Duane “Keffe D” Davis, the man accused of orchestrating the 1996 killing of American rapper Tupac Shakur, has reportedly been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison following his conviction in the decades-old murder case.

Davis, 63, was the only person charged in connection with the killing, which remained unresolved for nearly three decades.

Prosecutors argued during the trial that Davis played a central role in organising the attack that claimed Shakur’s life in Las Vegas.

They also pointed to statements Davis made in interviews and a memoir published in 2019, alleging that he had sought to benefit financially from his association with the case.

During sentencing proceedings, a prosecutor reportedly told the court that Davis was unlikely to leave prison alive. Shakur’s sister was among those present in the courtroom.

When offered an opportunity to address the court, Davis reportedly gave a brief response, saying, “No, I’m good.”

His defence lawyer indicated plans to challenge the conviction through an appeal.

Shakur was shot in Las Vegas in September 1996 and died six days later at the age of 25.

His death became one of the most widely discussed murder investigations in American music history, attracting sustained public attention because he influenced hip-hop and the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The reported sentence represents a significant development in a case that has remained prominent in the music industry for three decades.

Any appeal could result in further judicial proceedings concerning Davis’s conviction and sentence.
