COAS SEEKS TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER AS NIGERIA DEEPENS DEFENCE PARTNERSHIP WITH TÜRKIYE

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has received the Deputy Secretary of Defence Industries of Türkiye, Mr Gökhan Uçar, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria–Türkiye defence-industrial cooperation.

The meeting focused on expanding collaboration in defence technology, equipment development, local production, technology transfer, maintenance support and capacity building to enhance the operational and technological capabilities of the Nigerian Army.

Lieutenant General Shaibu stressed the importance of defence partnerships that provide tangible operational benefits, strengthen indigenous expertise and deliver sustainable solutions to the evolving needs of the Nigerian Army.

The COAS emphasised the need for mutually beneficial and long-term defence-industrial partnerships built around effective technology transfer, skills development, local content and sustainable maintenance capabilities.

He noted that collaboration with credible international partners remained essential to building a more self-reliant, adaptable and combat-ready Nigerian Army.

The engagement also explored opportunities for cooperation in research and development, joint production, technical support and defence innovation.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Nigeria and Türkiye to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, developing Nigeria’s indigenous defence-industrial capacity and supporting the transformation of the Nigerian Army into a more professional, technologically advanced and operationally effective force.
