The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled a major opioid trafficking network and arrested several suspected drug dealers during coordinated operations across Taraba, Ebonyi, Imo, Edo, Kano and Gombe states.

According to the agency, operatives intercepted a truck conveying building materials from Onitsha to Jalingo and uncovered a large cache of illicit drugs concealed within the cargo. A 22-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure.

Recovered items included hundreds of thousands of tramadol capsules, pentazocine injections, rohypnol tablets and bottles of codeine-based cough syrup.

In separate operations, NDLEA arrested a 75-year-old suspect in Ebonyi State with suspected cannabis, while a raid on a drug hotspot in Imo State led to the arrest of a female suspect and the recovery of several kilograms of illicit substances.

The agency also apprehended multiple suspects during raids in Edo State, including three women allegedly found in possession of cannabis, methamphetamine and other psychotropic substances.

Further arrests were made in Kano and Gombe states, where operatives recovered large quantities of suspected narcotics, including cannabis and tramadol capsules.

Beyond enforcement activities, the NDLEA said it continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign through sensitisation programmes in schools and communities across several states.

The Chairman of the agency, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers involved in the operations and reaffirmed the NDLEA’s commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks and reducing drug abuse nationwide.
