Veteran Nollywood actor, Nkem Owoh has dismissed concerns that social media popularity is replacing talent in Nigeria’s film industry, insisting that genuine acting ability remains irreplaceable.
Speaking during a recent podcast interview, the actor popularly known as Osuofia said social media influence may attract attention but cannot substitute for the skills and creativity required to succeed in the entertainment industry.

According to him, real talent will always stand out regardless of changing trends in filmmaking and celebrity culture.
“I don’t think social media fame is replacing real talent. It can’t. There is no way social media fame can replace real talent,” he stated.
His comments come amid growing criticism from some actors who have accused filmmakers of prioritising online popularity, physical appearance and other non-professional factors when casting roles.
Several actors have recently expressed concerns that social media following, beauty and public visibility are increasingly influencing casting decisions in Nollywood, sometimes at the expense of trained and talented performers.

Despite the debate, Owoh maintained that authentic talent remains the foundation of a successful acting career and cannot be permanently overshadowed by internet fame.
