The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed a surveillance aircraft to support ongoing efforts to rescue teachers and pupils abducted from communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed that the Air Force responded swiftly after the abduction by deploying an aerial surveillance platform to provide real-time intelligence for search-and-rescue operations.

According to the governor, intelligence gathered through the surveillance missions has been crucial in assisting security agencies to monitor developments, track suspects and coordinate rescue efforts aimed at securing the safe release of the victims.

Makinde urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting security operations, assuring them that all necessary resources are being deployed to ensure the successful rescue of those still in captivity.

He commended the Chief of the Air Staff and the Nigerian Air Force for their prompt intervention, noting that the surveillance aircraft was deployed while Oyo State’s newly acquired aerial assets are still undergoing assembly at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Lagos.

The governor explained that the state procured the aircraft following consultations with the Air Force to ensure access to technical support, maintenance services and pilot training, expressing confidence that the assets would strengthen security operations across Oyo and neighbouring states once fully operational.

Representing the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to supporting efforts to secure the release of the abducted teachers and pupils.

He assured the Oyo State Government of the service’s continued collaboration with other security agencies in addressing security challenges and safeguarding lives and property.
