The President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Dr Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, has led an extensive humanitarian, educational and welfare outreach programme in Port Harcourt, reaffirming the association’s commitment to improving the wellbeing of military personnel, their families and widows of fallen heroes.
The outreach formed part of activities marking the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) and featured visits to military schools, welfare centres and healthcare facilities across Rivers State.

Dr Shaibu, accompanied by the wife of the Commander of the Namibian Army, Wing Commander Martha Lumba Nambahu, inspected the NAOWA Nursery and Primary School as well as NAOWA College, where she commended teachers and administrators for their dedication to quality education and character development.
She presented cash gifts and relief items to teaching and non-teaching staff in recognition of their contributions to the education of children within the military community.
The NAOWA President also visited the 29 Battalion, where she addressed members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), urging them to continue supporting their spouses by fostering peaceful and stable homes to enhance operational effectiveness.
As part of the humanitarian outreach, Dr Shaibu met with widows of fallen military personnel, assuring them of the association’s continued support while acknowledging the sacrifices made by their late husbands in service to the nation.

The outreach concluded at the Military Hospital, Port Harcourt, where she visited women and children receiving treatment, offered words of encouragement and distributed relief materials to support their recovery.
Dr Shaibu said the initiative reflects NAOWA’s commitment to complementing the Nigerian Army’s efforts through education, healthcare, family empowerment and social welfare programmes aimed at strengthening military families and supporting vulnerable members of the military community.
