MTN Nigeria has reported a sharp rise in its tax contributions, remitting N878.7bn in taxes, levies, and duties to federal and state governments in the 2025 financial year.

The figure, contained in the company’s 2025 Sustainability Report, represents a 15 per cent increase from the previous year and reflects the telecoms giant’s expanding financial footprint amid stronger earnings performance.

According to the report, MTN paid N543.9bn in 2023 and N764bn in 2024, bringing the cumulative growth in tax remittances to about 62 per cent over two years.

The company also recorded a major rebound in profitability, posting a profit after tax of N1.11tn in 2025, while revenue rose by 54.8 per cent to N5.20tn. Operating profit climbed to N2.08tn from N778.2bn in the previous year.

MTN said its tax payments covered company income tax, VAT, spectrum fees, import duties, and regulatory levies, as well as contributions under infrastructure tax credit schemes.

It also disclosed continued investment in national infrastructure, including a N202.8bn commitment to the reconstruction of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway under the Road Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme, alongside expanded telecoms rollout and increased local procurement spending.

The company added that 62 per cent of its procurement now comes from Nigerian suppliers, reinforcing its local content strategy and economic impact across multiple sectors.
