The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man, Richard Gabriel, after he was found in possession of 36 rounds of live cartridges during a routine stop-and-search operation in Benin City.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Eno Ikoedem, the suspect was intercepted on May 23, 2026, at Guobadia Junction along the Benin–Auchi Road.
The operation, carried out by officers attached to the Ikpoba Hill Area Command, involved a mini bus conveying seven passengers from the Benin–Auchi Bypass to Ring Road, Benin City.

During the stop, three male passengers reportedly abandoned their belongings and attempted to flee. Officers gave chase and arrested one of them, later identified as Gabriel, an indigene of Ovia South-West Local Government Area.
A search of his bag led to the recovery of the concealed cartridges.
The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring public safety across Edo State.
