A medical evacuation aircraft carrying six people has gone missing off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts, prompting a search operation by the United States Coast Guard.
The Gulfstream G100, operated by Canada-based Latitude Air Ambulance, was travelling from Bermuda to Boston when contact with the aircraft was lost over waters near Nantucket.
The aircraft was reported missing at about 1:30 a.m. local time on Saturday.

According to the air ambulance operator, six people were on board: two pilots, two medical personnel, a patient and a member of the patient’s family.
The US Coast Guard subsequently launched a search-and-rescue operation involving aircraft and surface vessels in an effort to locate the plane and those on board.
Latitude Air Ambulance provides medical evacuation and repatriation services, transporting patients between countries for medical care and return journeys.

Authorities had not announced the discovery of the aircraft or confirmed the condition of those on board as search efforts continued.
