Troops of the 65 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile General Area of Lagos State, arresting six suspects during an intelligence-led operation.
The operation, conducted under the leadership of the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected oil bunkerers operating in the area.
During the raid, the troops recovered four trucks, a pumping machine, and several pipes and drums allegedly used for the illegal refining and transportation of petroleum products.
The suspects, along with the recovered exhibits, have been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commending the troops for the successful operation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, praised their professionalism and urged them to sustain the offensive against economic sabotage and other criminal activities within the division’s area of responsibility.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to supporting efforts to curb illegal bunkering and other crimes that threaten the nation’s economy and security, while encouraging members of the public to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies.
