Youth leaders of the Labour Party have proposed opening consultations with the All Progressives Congress and groups supporting President Bola Tinubu over a possible political alignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The proposal followed a virtual meeting involving the Labour Party National Youth Leader, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, five national zonal youth leaders and youth leaders from 32 states.
According to a statement signed by the Edo State Labour Party Youth Leader, Ken Omusi, the meeting focused on the political direction of the youth wing amid the prolonged leadership crisis within the party.

The youth leaders mandated Ahanotu to begin consultations with relevant stakeholders in the APC as well as the Renewed Hope Movement, City Boy Movement and Tinubu Support Group to explore possible political cooperation ahead of the election.
They said the consultations would examine whether an alignment could provide greater opportunities for young Nigerians in political participation, leadership development, economic empowerment and national decision-making.
The youth leaders also expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as inadequate recognition, engagement and support for young people during and after the 2023 general elections.
They said any possible alignment would remain subject to further consultations and consensus among their members.
A physical meeting is expected to be convened in Abuja after the consultations to review the outcome and determine the youth wing’s next course of action.
The meeting also considered policies of the Tinubu administration in areas including human capital development, youth empowerment, economic reforms, infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, agriculture and workers’ welfare.
Participants expressed differing views on the policies and their impact on Nigerians.
The development comes amid continuing divisions within the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 elections.

In May, the Julius Abure-led faction adopted Ahanotu as its presidential candidate following a consensus primary in Abuja. Separately, the Nenadi Usman-led faction announced governance and public-policy specialist Chibuzo Okereke as its presidential candidate.
The proposed engagement with the APC and Tinubu-aligned groups remains at the consultation stage, with no final political alignment announced.
