The Kano State Government has suspended Durbar processions and horse-riding activities across the Kano metropolis until further notice, following a review of security concerns.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the State Security Council at the Government House in Kano. In a statement issued on Sunday, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the council had considered the security situation surrounding planned activities.
According to the government, security assessments showed that supporters were mobilising for the events, raising concerns about possible confrontations. It said the suspension was intended to protect residents and property and preserve public order.
Security agencies have been directed to enforce the restriction and take lawful action against anyone who violates it or threatens public peace.
The government urged residents, traditional institutions, political actors and supporters to remain calm and comply with the directive. It said measures were being taken to maintain security across the state.
