The Ekiti State Government has commenced the renovation and comprehensive upgrade of the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp located in Emure-Ise-Orun, in a move aimed at improving facilities and welfare for corps members serving in the state.
The intervention follows an earlier commitment by Governor Biodun Oyebanji to rehabilitate the camp and provide a more conducive environment for corps members during their orientation programme.
The Commissioner for Youth Development, Gold Adedayo, disclosed this on Wednesday during an inspection of ongoing renovation works at the facility.
According to the commissioner, 19 projects are currently being executed across the camp.
Adedayo said the renovation demonstrated the administration’s commitment to youth development and would significantly improve the standard of the facility when completed.
“The massive renovation of this facility is a demonstration of the Governor Oyebanji administration’s commitment to youth development,” he said.
He added that the completed projects would give the camp a modern outlook and place it among the leading NYSC orientation facilities in the country.
During the inspection, the commissioner visited several projects, including the camp gatehouse, registration centre, five male hostels, seven female hostels, dining facilities, kitchen, stores, perimeter fence and the NYSC State Coordinator’s lodge.
Adedayo expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, commending the contractors for their efforts to meet the agreed delivery timeline.
He said the upgraded facilities would provide corps members with a safer and more comfortable environment throughout their orientation period.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Projects, Olubunmi Talabi, said the projects were being executed simultaneously under the supervision of his office.
Talabi said the work was expected to be completed within the timeframe set by the governor to ensure that corps members could continue to use the facility for orientation activities as scheduled.
He disclosed that solar-powered lighting systems would be installed across the camp to improve visibility and strengthen security.
“Solar lighting solutions will be installed across all buildings and facilities within the camp to enhance illumination, improve security and provide a better experience for corps members and camp officials,” Talabi said.
He added that local contractors and artisans were being engaged as part of the state government’s local content policy.
According to him, the renovation works are expected to be completed within two months.
Talabi expressed confidence that the level of progress already recorded would enable the contractors to deliver the projects within the stipulated period and to the satisfaction of relevant stakeholders.
The NYSC State Coordinator in Ekiti, Adeola Ige, also welcomed the intervention, recalling the challenges previously experienced at the camp.
Ige commended the governor for responding to the concerns surrounding the facility, saying the renovation would have a significant impact on corps members and officials using the camp.
The state government said the ongoing intervention was part of its broader efforts to improve youth-oriented infrastructure and create better conditions for corps members deployed to Ekiti State.
