Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic has been named the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month for August after guiding the newly promoted side to a flawless start in their return to the top flight.

The 49-year-old Bosnian coach becomes only the third Hull City manager to win the award, following Phil Brown in September 2008 and Mike Phelan in August 2016.

Jakirovic also made history as the first Bosnian manager to receive the Premier League monthly award, bringing the number of nationalities represented among winners to 21.

The award follows Hull City’s impressive opening to the 2026/27 season after securing promotion through the Championship playoffs last campaign.

Under Jakirovic’s leadership, the Tigers recorded two victories from two matches in August, including a remarkable 2-0 win over Manchester United on the opening weekend.

Hull City continued their strong form by defeating fellow promoted side Coventry City with a late winner in a closely contested encounter.

Jakirovic won the award ahead of other managers who also recorded perfect August campaigns, including Mikel Arteta of Arsenal, Xabi Alonso of Chelsea and Enzo Maresca of Manchester City.

The winner was decided through a combination of votes from Premier League fans and a panel of football experts.

The achievement marks a significant milestone for Jakirovic and Hull City as they begin their first Premier League season in nine years.
