Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced that its navy struck a United States “Saildrone-type” unmanned vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, describing the action as a move to stop what it called an “aggressive mission.”

The incident occurred amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington, with maritime security concerns increasing across key Middle East shipping routes.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Centre also reported receiving information that projectiles struck two vessels off the coast of Oman, although details about the incidents remained unclear.

Satellite images analysed by experts have also shown possible oil slicks near the Strait of Hormuz following recent attacks on oil tankers suspected of links to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The developments come after a series of clashes between the United States and Iran, including US strikes on Iranian-linked oil tankers and ongoing disputes over control of strategic waterways.

Oil prices continued to rise amid concerns over possible disruptions to global energy supplies. Brent crude futures climbed above $108 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude also traded above $103 per barrel as traders reacted to growing instability in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy routes, remains at the centre of the crisis, with Iran maintaining a strong military presence in the area while Washington continues efforts to restrict Iranian maritime activities.

Meanwhile, tensions have spread beyond the Gulf region, with reports of Israeli air attacks in southern Lebanon and increased military operations in the occupied West Bank.

In Yemen, United Nations officials warned that the country faces its highest risk of a large-scale conflict since the 2022 truce, following renewed fighting and reports of thousands of families being displaced.

The escalating conflict has raised concerns among international observers over the possibility of a wider regional confrontation involving Iran and its allies.
