Senator Ali Ndume has asserted that Nigeria’s lingering insecurity could be decisively curtailed within six months if the Federal Government demonstrates firm commitment and political resolve.

Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today, the lawmaker emphasised that the solution to the country’s security challenges lies not in rhetoric but in deliberate and practical action. According to him, prioritising the training, proper equipping, and motivation of security personnel would significantly shift the tide.

“It is not about complaining; if the President, the Federal Government are serious, we can end this in six months,” Ndume stated.

The senator raised concerns over the increasing number of casualties among members of the armed forces, including high-ranking officers. He noted that such losses highlight underlying operational deficiencies that must be urgently addressed.

Ndume attributed the worsening security situation to inconsistent implementation of strategies, stressing the need for a coordinated, sustained, and well-executed national security framework.

He further underscored the importance of adopting modern warfare techniques, calling for expanded use of technology such as drones, enhanced air support, and better intelligence gathering systems. He added that Nigeria already possesses capable personnel who only require adequate resources and support to perform effectively.

“We have capable hands already on ground; all they need is equipment, ammunition, and motivation,” he said.

The remarks come amid renewed concerns over security in parts of the country, particularly in the North-East, where recent attacks on military formations and civilian communities have heightened tensions.

Despite the challenges, Ndume expressed optimism that with the right strategy, improved coordination, and unwavering political will, Nigeria can achieve a significant reduction in insecurity within a relatively short period.
