The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday continued its capacity-building workshop in Lagos with intensive sessions on political party compliance, financial reporting and implementation of the Electoral Act 2026 ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The second day of the workshop featured presentations on the Electoral Act 2026 and INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2026, focusing on compliance reporting, political party monitoring and implementation procedures.

Participants were taken through key provisions and major changes introduced in the new regulatory framework designed to strengthen electoral administration and political party accountability.

The technical sessions also included practical discussions on compliance mechanisms, reporting obligations and implementation strategies facilitated by democracy and governance experts serving as resource persons.

As part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability in political finance management, participants received hands-on training on the Political Finance Reporting and Audit System (PFRAS).

The training featured simulations on income declaration, expenditure documentation and annual financial reporting procedures expected from political parties.

INEC said the workshop forms part of its broader preparations for the 2027 General Election and reflects the Commission’s commitment to improving political party compliance, institutional efficiency and transparency through technology-driven electoral reforms.
