The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has visited Niger State to assess the security situation and ongoing rescue efforts following the attack and abduction of worshippers in communities within the Dekara District of Borgu Local Government Area.
The IGP, during his working visit on Saturday, August 29, 2026, met with government officials and security stakeholders in the state, expressing condolences to the government, residents and families of victims affected by the incident.
At the Niger State Government House, IGP Disu was received by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, who represented Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, alongside the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Barrister Maurice Bello Magaji.
The Inspector-General conveyed the condolences of the Nigeria Police Force and assured the state government that efforts to rescue the abducted persons and apprehend those responsible for the attack remained a priority.
In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, obtained by RismadarVoice Reporters, the IGP commended the Niger State Police Command for its response to the incident and timely updates on the situation.
He also acknowledged the support of the Niger State Government to the Police, particularly through the provision of operational vehicles, repairs of Armoured Personnel Carriers and welfare assistance for officers and personnel.
Addressing officers and men of the Niger State Police Command, IGP Disu directed security operatives to sustain intelligence-driven and professionally coordinated operations while prioritising the safety of victims and affected communities.
He assured the Command of continued support from Force Headquarters to improve logistics, mobility, intelligence gathering, training and operational effectiveness.
The IGP further ordered stronger cooperation between security agencies and local communities, stressing the importance of collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders and community stakeholders in improving intelligence gathering and preventing future attacks.
The Deputy Governor commended IGP Disu for personally visiting the state and reaffirmed the commitment of the Niger State Government to supporting security agencies in protecting lives, restoring peace and securing the release of victims.
During the visit, the Inspector-General also met with the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Dr Umar Farouk Bahago, CON, where he expressed condolences and discussed ways traditional institutions could support security efforts through community engagement and intelligence sharing.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to rescuing the abducted persons, protecting communities in Niger State and ensuring that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
