The Federal Government of Nigeria has awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of 13 police training institutions across the country to prepare them for the commencement of training programmes by the Nigeria Police Force.
The rehabilitation is expected to be completed within three weeks.
The development was disclosed on Thursday in Abuja during the 160th meeting of the National Economic Council, NEC, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
At the meeting, NEC also endorsed the Revised National Social Protection Policy, NSPP 2026–2030, and urged state governments to align their social protection policies, laws, budgets and implementation plans with the revised national framework.
The policy is designed to strengthen the coordination, financing, implementation, monitoring and accountability of social protection programmes across the country.
It also proposes the establishment of a National Social Protection Council, to be chaired by the Vice President, with six governors representing the six geopolitical zones as members.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice President Shettima urged NEC to sustain ongoing economic reforms until their impact translates into more jobs, stronger purchasing power, increased business confidence and improved living conditions for Nigerians.
He stressed that government policies must move beyond announcements to measurable outcomes capable of earning public confidence.
The Vice President also warned against abandoning unfinished government programmes in favour of new priorities, describing continuity as an important component of accountability.
He said the Federal Government remained committed to working with state governments to translate economic policies into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
