The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, was on Saturday honoured at a state banquet hosted by the Lagos State Government at the Lagos House, Marina, in recognition of his recent appointment as the 23rd indigenous and 33rd Inspector-General of Police of Nigeria.

The event, convened by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, drew an array of dignitaries, senior government officials, security stakeholders, and members of the public. It served as both a celebration of Disu’s elevation and a reflection on his distinguished policing career.

Governor Sanwo-Olu described the IGP as a proud product of Lagos, whose values and professional ethos were shaped by the state’s institutions and communities. He noted that the honour was not only for Disu’s new role but also in recognition of his impactful leadership, particularly during his tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos.

In his remarks, IGP Disu expressed appreciation to the government and people of Lagos State for what he described as a warm and symbolic homecoming. He reflected on his years of service in the state and reiterated his commitment to advancing professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.

The police chief emphasised the need to rebuild public trust, strengthen ethical standards, and deepen community engagement in policing across the country. He also pledged to enhance collaboration between the police and critical stakeholders, including the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, to sustain security and stability.

Highlighting the collective nature of security, Disu called on Nigerians to actively support law enforcement efforts, stressing that safety remains a shared responsibility among government institutions, the private sector, civil society, and citizens.
