Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has claimed that some politicians are behind the recent wave of kidnappings in Oyo State, including the abduction of schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area.

Igboho made the allegation in a video circulating online, where he spoke during a meeting with newly elected officials of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by Akinteye Babatunde, at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.

He alleged that certain political actors were funding and arming criminal groups responsible for the kidnappings, and warned that he may publicly name those he believes are involved if the attacks continue.

“I know the politicians behind them, and if they do not stop their evil acts, I will mention them all,” he said. “They are the ones giving them ammunition and money.”

Igboho also stated that he had volunteered to assist in efforts to rescue the abducted schoolchildren but was prevented from doing so by the Oyo State Government.

According to him, authorities informed him that the kidnappers had threatened to kill the victims if he attempted to intervene directly.

He further claimed that his private security initiative, known as Iru Ekun, which he said had received federal approval, was discouraged by state authorities from participating in any rescue operation.

“After I organised the Iru Ekun security network, the Federal Government permitted it, but the state government said no security should act outside its control,” he said.

The activist also expanded his comments to national politics, alleging that efforts were underway to destabilise President Bola Tinubu’s administration through insecurity and misinformation.

He compared the current situation to past political tensions in Nigeria, suggesting that similar tactics were used against previous administrations.

“They did the same thing to Jonathan,” he said. “Now they want to make the country ungovernable for Tinubu.”

Igboho also defended his past confrontation with the federal government, adding that he has no personal fear for his safety, claiming his family members live abroad.

Authorities have not publicly responded to Igboho’s latest allegations at the time of this report.
