Governor Nasir Idris has defended his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, insisting he has no regrets about openly campaigning for the president ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the declaration in Birnin Kebbi during an event organised by the Tinubu Support Organisation (TSO), where supporters also endorsed both President Tinubu and Governor Idris for another term in office.
While responding to criticism over his public endorsement of the president, Idris said those questioning his position do not fully understand the benefits Kebbi State has received under the current administration.

“I saw a clip last week questioning why Governor Idris should be in the forefront of supporting Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the truth about the matter is that some people do not truly understand the gains and all the benefits the state has derived from this present government,” he said, noting that the critic was not from Kebbi State.
According to the governor, his support is driven by what he described as the Federal Government’s commitment to the development of Kebbi and its people, stressing that he will continue to support the ideals of the President.
He pointed to ongoing federal projects in the state as evidence of a productive relationship between the Tinubu administration and Kebbi State, arguing that democratic leadership should be measured by the delivery of tangible benefits to citizens.
“That’s why we are enjoying federal projects today. The essence of democracy is to deliver democratic dividends to the doorsteps of the people,” Idris stated.
The governor further described President Tinubu as both a political leader and mentor, reaffirming Kebbi State’s backing for the president’s second-term ambition.
“Tinubu is my leader and mentor. We support him 100 per cent in Kebbi State,” he said.

Idris also recalled that Kebbi residents had previously gathered in large numbers at the Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi to endorse Tinubu for a second term, describing the event as one of the earliest public endorsements of the president’s 2027 bid.
He pledged that his administration would continue to support initiatives aimed at advancing development in Kebbi State while working in alignment with the Federal Government’s broader national agenda.
