Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security and sustaining peace as a foundation for development across the state.

The Governor gave the assurance while receiving participants of Naval Warfare Course 10 from the Naval War College of Nigeria on a study tour to Akwa Ibom. He was represented at the event, held at the Old Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo, by the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi.

Governor Eno described security as critical to economic growth, social stability, and investment, stressing that his administration would continue to support security agencies through logistics, intelligence gathering, surveillance, and community-based initiatives.

He noted that despite Akwa Ibom’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states, the government remains proactive in safeguarding lives and property. He highlighted the creation of the Ministry of Internal Security and Waterways, as well as the establishment of the Ibom Community Watch, to strengthen grassroots intelligence and enhance public safety.

The Governor also commended the Nigerian Navy for its efforts in combating piracy, crude oil theft, and other maritime crimes, assuring the delegation of the state’s continued partnership with security agencies.

Earlier, the Commandant of the Naval War College and leader of the delegation, Rear Admiral Mohammed Muye, said the study tour was designed to expose participants to key national security issues, with a focus on maritime security and socioeconomic development.

Speaking on the theme, “Maritime Security and Socioeconomic Development: Akwa Ibom State in Perspective,” Muye described Akwa Ibom as strategically important due to its extensive coastline, oil and gas assets, and maritime potential.

He commended the state government for maintaining peace and pursuing strategic projects such as the Ibom Deep Seaport, which he said could transform the state into a major maritime and industrial hub in the Gulf of Guinea.

The delegation comprised 34 participants, including four foreign officers from Cameroon, Ghana, and Liberia, as well as 20 administrative personnel from the Naval War College.
