The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Bassey Eno, has received the first batch of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses procured by his administration as part of efforts to modernise the state’s transportation system.

Speaking after inspecting the buses today, Governor Eno said the 20 vehicles delivered are part of the 50 buses ordered to provide safer, easier and more efficient transportation services across the 31 local government areas of the state.

The governor commended the Ministry of Transport, the contractor, the military and other stakeholders for the successful delivery of the buses, adding that the next phase of the project will include the completion of bus terminals, installation of tracking devices and the introduction of a modern ticketing system.

Eno said the initiative aligns with his administration’s commitment to improving public transportation and noted that the state’s expanding road infrastructure provides a solid foundation for the new transport system.

He described the project as another milestone in his administration’s infrastructure development agenda and urged residents to remain patient and confident as more projects begin to yield visible results.

The governor also congratulated the Ministry of Transport and the people of Akwa Ibom on the achievement, describing the arrival of the buses as a significant step towards a more efficient and reliable transportation network.

Commissioner for Transport, Dr Anthony Luke, commended Governor Eno’s vision for the sector, saying the delivery of the buses reflects the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of residents through better transport services.

Meanwhile, other senior government officials, including Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, joined the governor in receiving the buses.
