Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, on Friday, June 12, 2026, commissioned the fully reconstructed QIC Government Model School, Oku Clan, in Uyo Local Government Area, as part of efforts to strengthen basic education across the state.
The school, which was rebuilt after years of infrastructural decay, now features modern learning facilities designed to enhance teaching and learning in a conducive environment.
Governor Eno, who was represented at the event by his Political Adviser, Dr Godwin Ntukudeh, said the project demonstrates the administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy through strategic investments in education.

He noted that democratic governance must be measured by tangible improvements in the lives of citizens, especially in critical sectors such as education.
“We have to deliver the dividends of democracy to demonstrate why the people entrusted us with their mandate,” he said.
The governor urged parents in Oku Clan and surrounding communities to take advantage of the improved facilities by enrolling their children in the school, assuring continued government investment in projects aimed at improving citizens’ welfare.
Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Essien Umoh, described the project as a major milestone in the state’s education sector, noting that the school, originally established over a century ago by the Qua Iboe Church, had suffered long periods of neglect before its reconstruction.
He disclosed that the upgraded facility now includes 19 classrooms, an ECCDE section, ICT and library facilities, an assembly hall, staff offices, a sick bay, sporting infrastructure, and a security post.
The project also includes residential accommodation for staff, comprising a three-bedroom apartment for the head teacher and two-bedroom quarters for teachers within the school premises.
Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr Anietie Etuk, commended the governor for prioritising education, describing it as a key investment in future generations.

Uyo Local Government Chairman, Dr Uwemedimo Udo, who is an alumnus of the school, praised the intervention, noting that the facility had deteriorated for years without attention due to its location.
He announced plans by the council to deploy security personnel and maintenance services to sustain the school environment, while also appealing for the establishment of a secondary school in the area.
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Anieti Udofia, also lauded the governor’s commitment to education and human capital development.
The Head Teacher, Mrs Emem Bassey, described the project as a legacy intervention that would positively impact generations of learners, while traditional rulers and community leaders expressed appreciation to the state government for restoring the school.
