Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has disclosed that his administration has saved over ₦200 billion through its in-house quantity surveying mechanism, describing the achievement as evidence of prudent financial management and transparency in the execution of government projects.
The Governor disclosed on Thursday while presiding over the July edition of the State Projects Delivery Meeting at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, timely project delivery and sustainable development.
Governor Eno said the meeting was convened to provide citizens and stakeholders with firsthand information on the implementation of government projects and the utilisation of public resources. He noted that savings realised through cost-control measures had been redirected to other critical development priorities.

The Governor also cautioned against the spread of false information about government projects, explaining that representatives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), civil society organisations and the media were invited to independently monitor and verify project updates.
Highlighting key achievements of the administration, Governor Eno listed the unveiling of the 350-bed Ibom International Hospital, commencement of twice-weekly Ibom Air flights to Accra, Ghana, the expected delivery of a new Airbus A220-300 aircraft, ongoing aviation infrastructure upgrades, rehabilitation of the Oron Maritime infrastructure, and efforts to actualise the Ibom Deep Seaport.
On infrastructure, the meeting was informed that the administration is executing 1,305 kilometres of roads and 40 bridges across the state, with total payments on road projects, including inherited projects, standing at ₦743.315 billion as of May 29, 2023.
Governor Eno further announced that Akwa Ibom had received a US$6 million performance award under the World Bank-assisted State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) Programme for excellence in transparency, budget management and good governance. He also disclosed that the state secured an additional US$3 million under the Nigeria for Women Project to support rural women.
The meeting reviewed projects earmarked for presidential commissioning later in the year, including major road projects, the ARISE Palm Resort, Ibom International Hospital, the new terminal building at Victor Attah International Airport, the Aviation Village, the Command and Control Centre and the Governor’s Office Annex.
A major highlight of the meeting was a presentation by the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Ms Arit Uya, on the roadmap for establishing a functional state electricity market. Governor Eno reiterated his commitment to providing stable electricity across the state within the next 18 months through ongoing reforms and private sector collaboration.
The meeting also reviewed progress on the Oron Maritime Project, Ibom International Convention Centre, Ibom Hotels, Ewet Luxury Estate, Youth Development Centres across the 31 local government areas, model schools, primary healthcare centres, Itam Industrial Park, Court of Appeal Complex, airport projects, AKICORP Headquarters, Ibom Hotels and Apartments in Abuja, and Ibom Towers in Lagos.
Expressing concern over the theft of corrugated iron perimeter fencing at aviation project sites, the Governor directed security agencies, local government chairmen, village heads and youth leaders to strengthen surveillance, warning that village heads who fail to prevent vandalism in their domains risk losing their certificates of recognition.

The Governor also led stakeholders to inspect 20 of the 50 newly procured Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for the state’s planned mass transit scheme. Participants commended the initiative as a major step towards providing affordable, efficient and environmentally friendly transportation.
The meeting attracted senior government officials, political leaders, traditional rulers, civil society representatives and other stakeholders, including Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong; Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; Head of Civil Service, Mrs Elsie Peters; APC State Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo; PDP State Chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan; and former Deputy Governor, Obong Nsima Ekere.
Stakeholders commended the administration’s prudent management of resources and urged the Governor to sustain the pace of development.
In his closing remarks, Governor Eno thanked participants for their contributions and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering the ARISE Agenda and improving the welfare of the people of Akwa Ibom State. He announced that the project delivery meeting would continue on Friday, July 3, 2026.
