The Federal Road Safety Corps in Rivers State has commenced a statewide special patrol operation ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

According to a statement issued by the Sector Public Education Officer, CRC Doris Ebor, the operation began on May 25 and will run until May 31.

The command said the exercise is aimed at ensuring safer roads, free flow of traffic and prompt emergency response during the festive period.

The FRSC disclosed that more than 1,000 regular personnel and 400 special marshals had been deployed across the state to manage traffic, reduce road crashes and respond swiftly to emergencies.

The command also stated that operational equipment, including patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, motorcycles, radar guns and breathalysers, had been strategically positioned along major highways and critical routes across the state.

According to the statement, unit commands in Eleme, Ahoada, Isiokpo, Bori, Bonny, Obio Akpor and Omoku have been directed to sustain aggressive visibility patrols throughout the operation.

The corps said enforcement activities would focus on offences such as excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading, use of mobile phones while driving, drunk driving and operation of mechanically defective vehicles.

The command further noted that patrols would be conducted round-the-clock, while night rescue teams had been stationed at designated operational points within the state.

The Sector Commander, Francis Ajatta, reassured residents of the corps’ preparedness to ensure a peaceful and crash-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Ajatta urged motorists to obey traffic regulations and cooperate with officers deployed for the operation.

The FRSC also encouraged road users to make use of its toll-free emergency line, 122, to report crashes and traffic-related emergencies during the festive period.
