Nearly 200 former Canadian diplomats have urged the government of Prime Minister Mark Carney to impose stronger sanctions on Israel over worsening conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories and Lebanon.
According to reports, the former diplomats stated in a letter addressed to media organisations that international sanctions are necessary to pressure Israel to respect international law and human rights obligations.

The signatories, numbering about 190 retired senior diplomats, warned that without firm action, Israel would continue expanding settlements and ignoring global concerns over the humanitarian situation in the region.
The letter also expressed concern over the destruction of towns and the rising civilian death toll in Lebanon, describing such actions as serious violations of international law despite Israel’s stated security concerns regarding Hezbollah.

The call adds to growing pressure on the Canadian government to take more concrete measures in response to allegations of rights abuses against Palestinians and the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
