Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has approved the appointment of Professor Ibrahim Danjuma as the new substantive Rector of Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola.
The appointment followed a recommendation by the institution’s Governing Council during its 35th emergency meeting, as part of efforts to strengthen leadership and academic administration at the state-owned institution.
The development was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.

According to the statement, Danjuma’s appointment followed the expiration of the tenure of the former substantive Rector, Professor Mohammed Dahiru Toungos, in March 2026.
The newly appointed rector previously served at Modibbo Adama University, Yola, where he held senior academic and administrative responsibilities.
He also served as Director-General of the Adamawa State Debt Management Agency, bringing experience in public administration and financial management to his new position.
Before his appointment to the Debt Management Agency in April 2025, Danjuma had served as Dean of the School of Management and Information Technology at Modibbo Adama University and held leadership responsibilities at the American University of Nigeria.
Congratulating the new rector, Governor Fintiri urged him to prioritise academic excellence, institutional discipline, integrity and effective administration.
The governor expressed confidence that Danjuma’s academic background and administrative experience would contribute to the continued development of the polytechnic.
He also charged the new rector to embrace technological advancement, innovation and modern educational practices to improve the institution’s competitiveness.
Fintiri maintained that the appointment aligned with his administration’s commitment to improving educational standards and strengthening tertiary institutions across Adamawa State.
Adamawa State Polytechnic, established in 1991 following the merger of the College of Preliminary Studies in Yola and the Staff Development Institute in Numan, is one of the state’s major public tertiary institutions.

The polytechnic offers National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programmes in various academic and technical disciplines, subject to accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education.
It also maintains academic affiliations supporting opportunities for students pursuing higher qualifications.
Danjuma is expected to provide leadership in academic planning, staff development, institutional administration and the expansion of practical and technology-driven education.
His appointment comes after a period during which the institution operated under acting rectors while the process of selecting a substantive head continued.
