The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has introduced a new policy allowing candidates who have lost access to their registered telephone numbers or email accounts to update the details under a controlled verification process.
The revised arrangement, which takes effect on Monday, September 21, 2026, is designed to assist candidates who are unable to recover their registered SIM cards or email accounts while maintaining safeguards against fraud and unauthorised changes.
The development was announced in a statement by JAMB’s Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocols, Dr Fabian Benjamin.
The Board had previously restricted changes to registered GSM numbers and email addresses because of security concerns surrounding alterations to candidates’ records.
JAMB, however, said improvements in identity authentication and biometric verification had enabled it to review the policy while maintaining the security of candidates’ profiles.
The new measure is expected to assist candidates who have been unable to access their registered credentials for subsequent Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and admission-related processes.
Despite the policy change, JAMB said the service would be subject to strict authentication procedures to prevent impersonation, fraud and unauthorised alterations.
The Board also stated that each candidate would be permitted to use the SIM swap and/or email change service only once.
According to JAMB, the service will be available only at designated JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, including relevant State Offices where applicable.
Candidates seeking to update their details must provide the new GSM number and/or email address, depending on the service required. They are also required to have a duly executed court affidavit, which must be scanned and uploaded during the process.
JAMB outlined a series of steps for candidates seeking to access the service.
Candidates must first log into their e-Facility profiles using their existing credentials, including their email address, registration number or profile code.
They are then required to select “SIM Swap/eMail Change Payment” from the available menu and pay the prescribed fee.
After payment, the candidate must visit a designated JAMB CBT centre and access the SIM Swap/eMail Change Quicklink.
The candidate will enter their profile code or existing GSM number and select “Fetch Details”, after which biometric verification will be conducted.
Candidates will then select whether they want to change their GSM number, email address or both, before entering the new details.
The scanned court affidavit must also be uploaded before the candidate selects “Update” to complete the process.
A confirmation message will be displayed once the change has been successfully processed.
JAMB advised candidates to use the facility only in genuine circumstances and warned them against patronising unauthorised agents or outlets.
The Board said the revised policy was intended to balance the protection of candidates’ personal data with the need to provide accessible services to applicants who lose access to their registered credentials.
