Ebonyi State Governor has charged the newly sworn-in chairmen and vice chairmen of the state’s 13 Local Government Areas to prioritise grassroots development, good governance and effective service delivery.

The governor gave the charge on Tuesday at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki, during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected local government council leaders.

He urged the council chairmen to regard their positions not as privileges but as a sacrifice and a call to serve, stressing the need for them to uphold the Constitution, protect the interests of their constituents and diligently discharge their responsibilities.

The governor directed the new council administrations to faithfully implement the programmes and policies of the state government as well as the manifesto of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while working with relevant stakeholders to advance development in their respective councils.

He also charged the vice chairmen to support their chairmen and promote unity and teamwork in the administration of their councils.

According to him, the people of Ebonyi deserve effective leadership at every level, urging the new council leaders to justify the confidence reposed in them by serving with integrity, humility, discipline and commitment.

The governor said the inauguration marked a renewed commitment to taking development and the dividends of democracy closer to the people at the grassroots, assuring that the administration would continue its drive for deeper grassroots development across the state.
