Country music icon Dolly Parton has been laid to rest in a private funeral ceremony held for members of her immediate family following her death at the age of 80.
The private service took place on August 28 at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville, Tennessee, where the legendary singer was buried beside her late husband, Carl Dean, who died in March 2025 after nearly six decades of marriage.
Parton’s family had earlier announced that a private funeral would be held in line with her personal wishes before her passing, while encouraging fans around the world to honour her memory in their own ways.
Her niece, Lainey Mae Parton, confirmed the burial in a tribute shared on social media, describing the moment as emotional and difficult for the family.
The singer’s relatives also revealed that Parton had made specific arrangements concerning her final farewell, including her preference for a peaceful and private ceremony.
Before her death, Parton had spoken about the music she wanted associated with her memorial service, mentioning the gospel song “If We Never Meet Again” as one of her preferred choices.

The song held personal significance for the singer because it was also performed at her father’s funeral. She had previously said she would like the song played at her own farewell ceremony.
Parton, however, also acknowledged that her famous 1973 hit “I Will Always Love You” would likely be connected with tributes following her death.
The Grammy Award-winning singer built a career spanning decades in country music, acting, business and philanthropy. Beyond entertainment, she was widely recognised for establishing the Imagination Library programme, which provides free books to young children.
