The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has sworn in 68 newly appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) as part of activities marking the commencement of the 2026/2027 legal year.
The swearing-in ceremony represents a significant milestone for the legal practitioners elevated to the prestigious rank, which is reserved for lawyers who meet established professional standards and demonstrate distinction in legal practice.
The development was announced in a news flash on Monday, accompanied by video footage and photographs of the ceremony.

The rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is one of the highest professional distinctions available to legal practitioners in the country.
The conferment process is overseen by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC), which evaluates eligible candidates based on prescribed criteria, including professional competence, integrity and contributions to legal practice.
The formal swearing-in marks the admission of the successful candidates into the Inner Bar, placing them among senior members of Nigeria’s legal profession.

The ceremony also forms part of the annual activities associated with the opening of a new legal year, an occasion that brings together members of the judiciary, senior lawyers and other stakeholders in the administration of justice.
The identities of the 68 newly sworn-in senior advocates and additional details of the ceremony are expected to be provided through official judicial communications.
