A lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Ilorin, Chief Elijah Olorunsuwa, has alleged that he feared for his life after being arrested by police officers over a WhatsApp post.
Olorunsuwa described the experience as frightening, humiliating and disturbing, claiming that officers who initially informed him they were taking him to the Kwara State Police Command instead transported him to Kogi State.
Recounting the incident during an interview, the lecturer said the encounter began at approximately 5 a.m. when unidentified individuals arrived at his residence and knocked repeatedly on the gate.
According to him, his wife initially responded to the knocking and encountered a woman who claimed she wanted to speak with her.
Olorunsuwa said his wife questioned the purpose of the early-morning visit, but the woman kept insisting on seeing her.
He explained that he eventually went outside after noticing that several people were gathered near the entrance.

The lecturer alleged that the woman later changed her explanation, saying she was actually looking for him and claiming her superior wanted to speak with him.
Olorunsuwa said the circumstances surrounding the encounter immediately raised concerns about his personal safety.
He further alleged that the officers did not take him to the destination initially communicated to him, leaving him uncertain about where he was being transported and what might happen next.
The lecturer likened the experience to a kidnapping, citing the manner in which the officers approached his residence and the subsequent journey to another state.
His account has raised questions about the procedures followed during the arrest, particularly the circumstances surrounding the early morning operation and the movement of a suspect between states.
The precise content of the WhatsApp post that allegedly prompted the arrest was not established in the account provided.
The legal grounds for the arrest, the identity of the officers involved and the circumstances surrounding his transfer to Kogi State also remain unclear.

There was no independently verified police response to Olorunsuwa’s allegations in the information available for this report.
The allegations have not been independently established, and further clarification from the relevant police authorities would be necessary to determine the circumstances of the operation.
